Maro

Maro is a small Andalusien village belonging to Nerja - the tourist centre of the Costa del Sol Oriental which is famous all over the world for the Balcón de Europa and the Nerja Caves. Maro is situated between the cliffs of the nature park Maro-Cerrogordo and beneath the nature reserves of the Sierra Almijara and Tejeda, right next to the Nerja Caves and approximately 4 km from the centre of Nerja where you can find plenty of tourist facilities and interesting places to visit.

Maro has the ambience of a typical Andalucian village with its small white houses, gentle and friendly inhabitants. From Maro you can enjoy beautiful views to the mountains and the sea, far away from the noise and hustle of the big cities. It has the best micro climate in Europe, with more than 300 days of sun in the year and an average temperature of 18 degrees.

Maro is the perfect spot for a variety of excursions and activities – the most important of which being a visit to the Caves of Nerja, only a stone throw away from the village. It is also an excellent base for walks to Los Pinarillos and La Fuente del Esparto with its public barbeque area with fountains, a children’s play area and picnic tables – right within the Sierra Almijara. Of special interest are also the beautiful bays nestling between the cliffs of the nature park: El Barranco de Maro, La Cala, El Molino de Papel and Las Alberquillas.

The fiestas De Las Maravillas and Las Hogueras de San Antón in September and the Romería de San Isidro in May are the important fiestas of this village whose inhabitants like to celebrate together and where visitors are received with open arms.

Water sport lovers will find everything they desire on the beach of Burriana and in the Marina del Este port which is about 5 km east of Maro.
